125 years of electricity
History
On February 20, 1894, at a citizens’ meeting in the Fruchthalle, a request was made to the city council to bring the construction of an electricity plant before a general citizens’ meeting.
On February 25, 1894, the city council approved the plans of the engineer and pioneer of the Bavarian electricity system, Oscar von Miller, at this citizens’ meeting.
Construction began in April 1894. As the fourth power plant in the Palatinate (after Bergzabern, Lambrecht and Wachenheim/Forst) and one of the first 140 plants in the German Reich, the facility went into operation for the first time on September 1, 1894.
