Seismic measurements for geothermal energy in the region completed
The vibro-trucks have been on the road in Kaiserslautern and the surrounding area since November 13, 2025. After almost four weeks, we were able to complete the measurements on December 9, 2025. The small orange-grey plastic cubes (geophones), which were distributed everywhere, have already been collected again.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
The measurements were associated with some restrictions. There were brief traffic obstructions in some places and it was occasionally a little louder near the trucks. We would like to thank all of you, the citizens of the region, for your patience, your understanding and your willingness to cooperate. Only in this way was it possible to explore the potential for an independent and future-proof heat source for the region.

The vibro-trucks were on the road in several stages in the region. The map shows the measurement area, which was driven through step by step.
From November 13 to December 6, several convoys of 2-4 trucks were on the road in parallel in the region.
Positive conclusion from project manager Dr. Uwe Baaske
There was great interest in the measurements among the population. There was a lively exchange at the information events. Dr. Uwe Baaske and his team mastered the first part of this extensive project very well. In the video, Dr. Baaske looks back on the project and gives an outlook on how things will continue.
The work and organizational structures of the companies involved interacted very well and in a coordinated manner. IPS Informations- & Planungsservice GmbH was responsible for the approval procedure and planned the routes. DMT GmbH & Ko KG carried out the measurements with the vibro-trucks, distributed approx. 27,000 geophones and collected them again. In the region, 3 convoys with 2-4 trucks were on the road at the same time.
What happens now?

The data on our subsurface is now being evaluated by experts. They are creating a 3D model of the rock strata beneath Kaiserslautern. Based on this detailed picture of these geological structures, a decision will be made as to whether geothermal energy is possible in the region.
The evaluation takes time and takes place in the background. In other words: until the end of the evaluation, the population in the city and district will experience “radio silence” in contrast to the measurements. Of course, we will keep you informed about the geothermal project as soon as there is any news. The results of the investigations are expected to be known in 2027.
