“Wild Hilde run of lights” in Kaiserslautern

Cohesion, consideration, participation and cross-age interaction are keywords that describe the “Wilde-Hilde-Lichterlauf”. The initiative of a lively elderly lady and her granddaughter is exemplary and brings people in the region together.

The idea: exercise for everyone

The inspiration for the light run came from Hildegard Kuproth, affectionately known as “Wild Hilde”, and her granddaughter Jasmin Awan.
Hildegard has been active and full of energy all her life. But since a fall, she has been confined to a wheelchair – something that makes many everyday activities difficult for her. Together with Jasmin, she came up with the idea: “If walking is no longer possible, then we’ll just roll. And we’ll take everyone with us who feels the same way.”

This idea turned into an encouraging concept: an integrative exercise event that focuses not on performance, but on encounters, participation and togetherness.
So Jasmin set out to find supporters – and it quickly became clear that the region was on board with this idea.

We at SWK were also immediately enthusiastic. We wholeheartedly support such activities that connect people, break down barriers and strengthen social interaction.

Senior citizens, families, wheelchair users, carers and athletes ran their laps together on the evening of the light run. There was a glow stick for every lap completed – and the park became brighter with every step. The evening’s motto set the tone for the atmosphere: Every lap counts. Every person counts.

SWK and Sparkasse Kaiserslautern donated to the palliative care association of the Westpfalz-Klinikum and the children’s hospice for every lap run. Further donations were made to Mama/Papa hat Krebs e. V., Alt-Arm-Allein and Betreuung mit Herz e. V.
, among others, making the candlelight run a visible sign of solidarity.

Outlook: Continuation 2026

And this one-off experience will not stop there: The next edition is already being planned for 2026!
In spring, the Wild Hilde Run will move into the Kaiserslautern Garden Show – bigger, even more inclusive and once again with the aim of bringing people together and making hope visible.
